Common causes of scalp itchyness

There may be many reasons for scalp itchiness. The most common causes are listed below:

1. Scabies Scalp

This is due to human mite infestation on scalp. the adult mites burrow under the scalp skin; making a track as burrows. The scalp them becomes inflamed with intense itch.

Usually seen in crowded housings, hostels and dormitories. This infestation can spread to house members via clothes and contact.

2. Contact Dermatitis 

On scalp and neck. Reactions to chemicals such as shampoos and scalp treatments may cause an allergic response. The reaction occurs with a few minutes up to a days after exposure. The lesions may be hot, blistered and also 'weepy' with clear discharge.

 

3. Scalp Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin disease that speeds up the growth cycle of skin cells- causing skin dryness and heavy flaking with raw skin below the cracked skin. May be mistaken for dandruff in early stages.

  4. Dandruff (Seborrheic Dermatitis)

A common condition that mainly affects your scalp. It causes scaly patches, inflamed skin and stubborn dandruff. It usually affects oily areas of the body, such as the face, sides of the nose, eyebrows, ears, eyelids and chest. This condition can be irritating but it's not contagious
